Shaker Style Kitchen and Bathrooms
Kitchens and bathrooms in the Shaker style offer a simple, classic look that works between traditional and contemporary, much like the transitional design style. The shaker style features flat panel doors in with wide cabinet rails and stiles in maple, birch, oak and more. This distinctive look offers clean, crisp lines that look good on doors and drawers of any size, from smaller wall cabinets to wide 3 drawer base cabinets.
Inspired by religious influences that originated in the colonial era of America, the shaker style leans heavily on functionality and simplicity of design with little or no emphasis on design flair or style. This is seen even in the finishes of the cabinets themselves, which consistently is a natural wood finish. Today that has broadened, as the popularity of white and gray has exploded. Both of these colors do fit in with the simple nature of the shaker style.
Because of its’ minimalist nature, shaker cabinets also can work well in others styles such as traditional and contemporary. With its’ neutral starting point, it can be designed around to create a variety of design styles once countertops, appliances, flooring and other touches are added. More recently, subtle touches such as a gentle bevel to the edges of shaker doors and drawer fronts have grown in popularity with consumers who like the shaker look but want just a little bit more to it.
