Concrete Countertops
Concrete kitchen countertops can be customized in a number of ways, from creating unusual shapes to tinting the traditional color of concrete to something that can blend in with your kitchen. Concrete countertops are manufactured as 1 ” thick slabs that are custom made to the specific needs of the customer, often times being cast right in your kitchen.
Finishes available on concrete kitchen countertops are similar in nature to honed surfaces used for stone. You can experience a variety of texture in a concrete kitchen countertop, with tiny pebbles, sand and other materials giving it a unique feel to the touch. A penetrating sealer is required for every concrete kitchen countertop and should be followed by a coat of wax. This must be reapplied 3-4 times a year for best performance.
Pros: Heat and scratch resistance, color can be tinted for variation, offers exotic and unique look
Cons: Susceptible to cracking, is porous (but can be sealed), sometimes is perceived as more “industrial” looking, limited number of fabricators who work with concrete
